Arsenal preparing improved Bruno Guimarães bid after Morgan Rogers valuation revealed

Arsenal are preparing to return with an improved offer for Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães after seeing their opening proposal rejected.

Mikel Arteta has made the Brazil international his priority midfield target this summer, with the Gunners determined to strengthen ahead of another Premier League title defence.

Arsenal have already had an initial £65 million offer rejected by Newcastle and are expected to submit a second bid in the coming days.

The Gunners are understood to have already agreed personal terms with Guimarães, who has reportedly informed Newcastle that he wants to move to the Emirates Stadium.

Despite the player's stance, Newcastle remain reluctant to sanction the sale of their captain.

The Magpies value the midfielder at around £100 million and continue to hope they can persuade him to sign a new contract.

With two years remaining on his current deal, Newcastle are under no immediate pressure to cash in.

Arsenal's admiration for Guimarães stretches back several years.

The club attempted to sign the Brazilian before his move from Lyon to Newcastle in January 2022, only for the Magpies to complete a deal worth around £35 million.

Now, more than four years later, Arteta is once again attempting to bring the midfielder to north London as he looks to add proven Premier League quality to his squad.

The pursuit of Guimarães has gathered pace after Arsenal missed out on Morgan Rogers earlier this summer.

The Aston Villa star was Arteta's preferred attacking target, but Arsenal refused to meet Villa's valuation.

Football Place understands the Gunners were prepared to spend up to £80 million, significantly below the £117 million Chelsea ultimately paid to complete a British-record transfer.

Rather than stretch beyond their valuation, Arsenal walked away from negotiations, allowing Chelsea to secure the England international.

The move eclipsed Manchester City's £116 million signing of Elliot Anderson earlier in the transfer window.

Arsenal are expected to submit an improved offer as they test Newcastle's resolve once again.

Whether the Magpies soften their position could depend on the size of Arsenal's next bid, but with Guimarães identified as one of Arteta's priority targets, negotiations look set to continue throughout the remainder of the transfer window.
