Brentford youngster Gustavo Nunes attracts fresh interest from Brazil

Brentford winger Gustavo Nunes is back on the radar of Brazilian clubs after returning from his loan spell at Swansea City, with Cruzeiro now exploring a move for the 20-year-old.

The Brazilian side are considering an offer that would see Nunes return to his homeland on loan, as Brentford weigh up the next step in the youngster's development.

According to reports from Brazil, Cruzeiro have added Gustavo Nunes to their list of attacking targets for the summer transfer window.

Rather than pursuing a permanent transfer, the club are believed to favour a loan deal with an option to buy, giving them the opportunity to assess the winger before making a long-term commitment.

At this stage, Nunes is one of several names being considered, but the interest highlights that his reputation remains strong in Brazil despite a difficult first two years in English football.

Brentford sent Nunes to Swansea City during the second half of last season in the hope of accelerating his development through regular Championship football.

That plan never fully materialised.

The winger made 12 appearances, including just four starts, and played fewer than 600 minutes in all competitions. His only direct goal contribution came with an assist against Preston North End.

The lack of consistent game time means Brentford must now decide whether another loan would benefit the youngster more than keeping him around the first-team squad.

The Bees invested around £10.3 million (€12 million) to sign Nunes from Grêmio in 2024, viewing him as a long-term project rather than an immediate first-team player.

His progress has been slowed by injuries and limited opportunities, making this summer an important one for both player and club.

A return to Brazil could provide the regular football he has struggled to find in England, but Brentford may also feel another season closer to the first team is the better route if Keith Andrews believes he can contribute.

Cruzeiro are expected to assess whether to formalise their interest with Brentford in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, the Bees will decide if another loan move offers the best pathway for Nunes or whether the Brazilian will remain in West London to compete for opportunities during the new Premier League season.
