Brazilian media and fans are buzzing after Igor Thiago’s stunning display in Brentford’s 3-1 victory against Manchester United, with growing calls for the 24-year-old striker to be handed a place in the national team.

Thiago struck twice against Amorim’s side, taking his tally to five goals in seven appearances this season. His finishing and movement at the Gtech Community Stadium not only sealed a famous win for the Bees but also reignited debate in Brazil about the striker’s international prospects.

According to local outlet Lance!, supporters and pundits quickly began to hail Thiago as a future Seleção candidate. One viral comment read: “Igor Thiago used to score against second division sides when playing for Cruzeiro, and now he scores against United. It’s only a matter of time before he’s in the national team.”

Another highlighted Brazil’s turnaround in striking depth: “Igor Thiago scores again! Not long ago Brazil seemed in crisis when it came to top-tier strikers, now they’re multiplying in the Premier League.”

From humble beginnings to Premier League stardom

Thiago’s rise has been well documented by Brazilian outlets, including ESPN Brazil, who revisited his humble beginnings before breaking into professional football. He previously worked as a builder’s helper, at a market, and handing out flyers before securing his chance in the game.
His determination and persistence are now being rewarded at the highest level, where he has quickly established himself as a reliable goalscorer for Brentford.

With five goals already, Thiago has matched or outperformed several more established Premier League forwards. His form makes a compelling case for a Brazil call-up ahead of upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Analyst verdict

FootballPlace analyst John William believes Thiago’s trajectory mirrors that of other Brazilian forwards who proved themselves in Europe before national recognition. “Thiago’s double against United isn’t just about the goals; it’s about doing it on the biggest stage. For Brazil, having another in-form striker playing in the Premier League is invaluable. His background also makes his story compelling — he’s hungry, grounded, and still improving.”

William added: “If he maintains this form into the new year, it’s difficult to imagine Brazil’s coaching staff overlooking him.”

Key insights

  • Igor Thiago has 5 goals in 7 matches for Brentford this season.
  • Brazilian media (Lance! and ESPN Brazil) have tipped him for a national call-up.
  • Fans highlight Brazil’s improved depth in Premier League strikers.
  • Thiago’s humble background has added to the fascination with his rise.

What’s next for Igor Thiago?

Thiago will look to continue his hot streak as Brentford push to climb the Premier League table. With games against top-six opponents on the horizon, further big performances could cement his case for Brazil selection.

For the Seleção, monitoring Thiago’s progress will be essential. With strikers like Joao Pedro and Endrick already in the mix, competition is fierce — but Thiago’s goals and work rate make him an increasingly hard player to ignore.

His first goal against United was a rocket with his left. 5 goals in 7 should be good enough to get a call and he plays well. I mean if Joao Pedro gets a call he should as well
