Bournemouth plan £75m Alex Scott release clause as Chelsea interest grows

Bournemouth are determined to protect themselves against losing another key player by negotiating a new contract with Alex Scott that could include a release clause worth around £75 million.

The 22-year-old has emerged as one of Bournemouth’s most valuable players following an excellent Premier League campaign, attracting interest from several leading clubs.

Chelsea are among his admirers and have already attempted to sign Scott, but Bournemouth rejected their approach. The Blues are looking for midfield reinforcements following Enzo Fernandez’s move to Manchester City.

Scott’s existing Bournemouth contract runs until 2028, meaning there is no immediate pressure to sell.

However, according to The Athletic, Bournemouth want to reward his progress with improved terms while simultaneously protecting his transfer value. Any new agreement is expected to contain a release clause, potentially set at approximately £75m.

Such an arrangement would give Scott a clearly defined route to leave if a major club meets Bournemouth’s valuation, while preventing the Cherries from being forced into negotiations below their preferred price.

It comes after Bournemouth have already lost significant players.

Antoine Semenyo departed for Manchester City in January, while Marcos Senesi is leaving on a free transfer to join Tottenham Hotspur.

Scott could therefore become another player targeted by a Premier League heavyweight, making his contract situation particularly important.

Chelsea have shown concrete interest in Scott and made an attempt to sign the midfielder this summer, but Bournemouth rejected their offer.

The London club view the England international as a potential replacement for Fernandez following his departure to Enzo Maresca’s Manchester City.

Liverpool could also become an intriguing potential destination.

Former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola is now in charge at Anfield, potentially creating an opportunity for Scott to reunite with the coach who played an important role in his development on the south coast.

For now, however, Bournemouth’s priority is keeping Scott and strengthening their negotiating position.

A new contract containing a substantial release clause would achieve both objectives, giving the Cherries greater security while recognising that Scott’s performances have placed him firmly on the radar of England’s biggest clubs.

Bournemouth will attempt to reach an agreement with Scott over improved terms and the proposed release clause. If he signs, interested clubs would have a much clearer price for future negotiations. Chelsea’s existing interest means they remain a club to watch, particularly if they decide another midfield addition is required.
