Aston Villa are continuing to work on deals for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Joao Palhinha as Unai Emery targets two more additions before the summer transfer window closes.

Villa are already preparing to confirm Matteo Ruggeri and Zion Suzuki as their fourth and fifth arrivals of the summer, but their recruitment is not expected to stop there.

A new right-back and midfielder remain on Emery's agenda, with Wan-Bissaka and Palhinha the two players currently being pursued.

Villa working on Wan-Bissaka deal

Wan-Bissaka's future at West Ham remains uncertain after he was left out of Nuno Espirito Santo's squad against Burnley last weekend.

The Hammers were reportedly demanding more than £20m for the Congo international earlier in the summer.

Villa will now attempt to find an agreement as they look to strengthen the right side of their defence.

There is also space being created within Emery's squad.

Kosta Nedeljkovic is expected to join Rangers, while Andres Garcia has already departed on loan to Getafe.

Those moves would leave a clear opening for Wan-Bissaka should Villa successfully negotiate a deal with West Ham.

Palhinha still wants Aston Villa move

Villa are also continuing their pursuit of Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha.

Bayern would prefer a permanent sale, but sporting director Max Eberl has indicated that a loan could be considered if a significant fee is included.

That could provide Villa with a route towards completing the transfer.

Palhinha spent last season on loan at Tottenham and is keen on joining Aston Villa. Bayern are also understood to be aware of the 31-year-old's preference.

The German club have struggled to find enough suitors willing to meet their demands for a permanent transfer, potentially increasing the chances of another loan agreement.

Key Points

  • Aston Villa are working on deals for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Joao Palhinha.
  • West Ham previously wanted more than £20m for Wan-Bissaka.
  • The right-back was left out against Burnley amid uncertainty over his future.
  • Kosta Nedeljkovic is expected to leave Villa for Rangers.
  • Bayern prefer to sell Palhinha but could accept a loan with a high fee.
  • Palhinha is keen to join Aston Villa.
  • Matteo Ruggeri and Zion Suzuki are expected to become Villa's fourth and fifth summer signings.

What's Next?

Villa's immediate focus will be confirming the arrivals of Ruggeri and Suzuki before attempting to make further progress on Wan-Bissaka and Palhinha.

Nedeljkovic's expected departure should create room for a new right-back, while Bayern's willingness to consider another Palhinha loan could provide Villa with the breakthrough they need.

With two weeks remaining in the window, Emery could therefore still add two more significant signings to his squad.
