Former Arsenal winger Anders Limpar believes Mikel Arteta should consider playing Viktor Gyökeres alongside another striker to get the best out of the Sweden international.

The 28-year-old has struggled to secure a regular starting place this season, with Kai Havertz emerging as Arteta's preferred Premier League centre-forward.

Limpar explains why Gyökeres needs support

Speaking to Betarades, as reported by Football London, Limpar suggested Gyökeres is better suited to a two-striker system than operating alone.

The former Sweden international believes Gyökeres is most effective when attacking space behind defenders rather than playing as a traditional target man.

Limpar pointed to the striker's performances for Sweden as evidence that playing alongside another forward could help him.

However, adopting that approach would require Arteta to reconsider Arsenal's established attacking structure.

Havertz addresses Arsenal striker competition

Havertz has also discussed his relationship with Gyökeres amid competition for a starting place.

Speaking to Men in Blazers, the German said the pair have developed a positive relationship and remain supportive of each other regardless of selection decisions.

He described Gyökeres as a strong player and team-mate, while identifying Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane as someone he admires for his goalscoring and creativity.

The two Arsenal forwards were involved in Wednesday's 2–2 Champions League draw against Bayern.

Havertz started before Gyökeres replaced him in the 69th minute. The Swedish striker then helped create Declan Rice's late equaliser.

Key Points

  • Limpar believes Gyökeres could benefit from playing alongside another striker.
  • Havertz has recently been preferred in Arsenal's attack.
  • Havertz says competition has not damaged their relationship.
  • Gyökeres contributed to Rice's equaliser against Bayern.

What's Next?

Arteta must decide how to use his two centre-forward options as Arsenal continue their domestic and European campaigns.

No change to the team's attacking formation has been confirmed.
