Arsenal make move for Jacobo Ramon as Como defender emerges as priority target

Arsenal are reportedly stepping up their interest in Como centre-back Jacobo Ramon, with the 21-year-old emerging as a priority defensive target for Mikel Arteta.

The former Real Madrid youngster has developed into one of Serie A’s most highly-rated young defenders since joining Como for around €3million in 2025.

After making 32 league appearances during Como’s historic push for Champions League qualification last season, Ramon has started all six matches this term and established himself as an important figure alongside Trevoh Chalobah.

His progress has previously attracted attention from Aston Villa, but Arsenal are now making their presence felt.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Arsenal are closely following Ramon and have already “made a move” towards potentially signing him.

The Spain youngster is said to be near the top of Arsenal’s defensive shortlist and is increasingly viewed as a priority target.

That has led the Gunners to begin exploring what would be required to bring Ramon to north London and place him under fellow Spaniard Arteta.

However, Arsenal are not alone. Several clubs are monitoring the defender after his rapid development in Italy.

Any potential transfer is complicated by Real Madrid’s involvement.

Los Blancos reportedly retained a 50 per cent sell-on clause when Ramon moved to Como, as well as a buyback option.

That could give Madrid considerable influence over his future if Arsenal or another major European club make a serious approach.

Como themselves are also unlikely to make negotiations easy.

The Italian club have already shown their determination to retain their leading players, placing significant valuations on the likes of Nico Paz, Martin Baturina and Assane Diao.

With Como now competing at a higher level, there is little financial pressure to sell Ramon cheaply.

Arsenal’s interest appears to be moving beyond simple scouting, but there is currently no indication that an agreement with Como is close.

Much could depend on Real Madrid. Their contractual position gives them the opportunity to become directly involved if Ramon’s value continues to rise.

For Arsenal, the immediate task will be establishing whether Como are prepared to negotiate and at what price.

Ramon’s development means competition is also likely to increase. If Arsenal have identified him as one of their leading defensive targets, moving early could become important before his valuation rises further.
