Arsenal injury update: Ben White concern as Mosquera closes in on return

Arsenal’s defensive injury problems continue despite Jurrien Timber making his long-awaited return during the 2-0 Premier League victory over Sunderland.

Mikel Arteta is currently without William Saliba and Cristhian Mosquera, while Ben White has become the latest concern after being forced off at the Stadium of Light.

With a Carabao Cup trip to Ipswich next, Arsenal could at least receive one significant boost.

White was withdrawn at half-time against Sunderland after appearing to suffer a groin problem.

The right-back was seen holding the affected area towards the end of the first half before being replaced by Timber, who made his first appearance of the season.

There may be additional concern given White had also appeared uncomfortable during Arsenal’s Champions League victory over Napoli earlier in the week.

Arteta is expected to provide further information ahead of the Ipswich clash.

Mosquera could provide some timely relief for Arsenal’s depleted defence.

The summer signing has missed four matches after suffering a muscular injury against Aston Villa, subsequently sitting out games against Chelsea, Napoli and Sunderland.

Arteta recently revealed that the Spaniard was progressing well and suggested the Ipswich fixture could come at the right time for his comeback.

“He’s doing really well,” Arteta said. “Let’s see if he can get back for this game.”

Saliba remains Arsenal’s biggest long-term defensive concern.

The France international has not played for the Gunners this season after aggravating a back problem during his country’s run to the World Cup semi-finals.

Arsenal have described his absence as an “extended period”, while Arteta admitted there is still considerable uncertainty surrounding his return.

“The progression has been really positive in the last few weeks,” Arteta said. “But we need to wait and see how that one reacts when we start to put some load into it.”

For now, Arsenal are refusing to place a firm date on Saliba’s comeback.
