Rennes admit clubs are in talks, with Brentford now firmly involved in Arnaud Kalimuendo's potential exit.
Brentford have entered the race to sign Arnaud Kalimuendo from Stade Rennais, following reports that Newcastle United are also interested.
L’Équipe report that both clubs have made contact. Rennes manager Habib Beye left Kalimuendo out of their recent friendly against Genoa amid speculation he could depart this summer. The situation has only intensified after the talented striker reportedly turned down interest from Leeds United — and now Brentford are pushing hard.
Rennes Director Confirms Talks
Ouest-France relay comments from Rennes’ sporting director Loïc Désiré, who acknowledged the growing transfer interest:
“There are discussions, but he hasn’t left yet. We’re moving on to phase three of our window — finding an attacking replacement or complement.” — Loïc Désiré, via Ouest-France
That means Rennes are ready to strengthen their frontline regardless of whether Kalimuendo leaves — and Brentford are now a priority suitor.

Kalimuendo’s Salary
Kalimuendo currently earns approximately £24,994 per week at Rennes. That wage makes him a realistic target for mid-tier Premier League sides like Brentford.
Analyst Verdict
Kalimuendo proved his quality last season with 18 goal contributions across all competitions. His versatility — able to play as a central or supporting attacker — offers immediate impact for Brentford’s forward line. With Newcastle also in the mix, hopping back into the Premier League could raise the stakes.
Key Insights
- Brentford have entered the race for Kalimuendo.
- Rennes confirm "discussions" but no deal yet.
- Player made 34 appearances, scoring 18 goals with 3 assists.

What’s Next
Expect Brentford to move quickly to agree personal terms with Kalimuendo. Rennes plan to respond with a replacement strategy in the coming days, likely scouting similar profile forwards to fill the gap. If agreed, Bremen could aim to complete a transfer before the window’s end — potentially wrapping it ahead of United’s or Newcastle’s late interest.
Would this be a good signing for Brentford? Which positions should they target next?
