FC Bayern Munich have reportedly established the maximum amount they are willing to pay for Anthony Gordon as interest in the Newcastle United winger continues to intensify ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to reports in Germany, Bayern have internally set a valuation ceiling of €70m for the England international as they prepare for another major attacking addition this summer.

The Bundesliga champions are expected to continue rebuilding squad depth while also targeting a marquee forward signing following last year’s arrivals, including Jonathan Tah and Luis Díaz.

Bayern Munich intensify Anthony Gordon interest

German journalist Manuel Bonke reports Bayern increasingly view Gordon as one of their leading attacking targets because of his versatility and proven ability across multiple forward positions.

The 25-year-old’s profile is believed to align closely with the type of dynamic wide attackers Bayern currently prioritise.

Having followed Bayern’s recruitment evolution closely in recent years, flexibility in advanced positions has become a major strategic focus. Gordon’s pace, pressing intensity and ability to attack both centrally and from wide areas make him an attractive fit for the Bundesliga side’s tactical structure.

However, Bayern reportedly remain cautious about overpaying despite their admiration.

The club are said to believe €70m represents the maximum sensible figure for the Newcastle attacker, particularly with Gordon currently valued lower across wider market estimates.

Champions League performances boosted value

While Gordon’s domestic form has occasionally fluctuated this season, his Champions League displays have significantly strengthened interest across Europe.

The winger has reportedly scored 10 goals in 12 European appearances this campaign — form that has greatly increased his reputation among elite clubs.

That European impact is understood to have played a major role in Bayern’s growing pursuit.
Earlier this month, Eddie Howe refused to fully dismiss speculation surrounding Gordon’s future when questioned about Bayern’s interest.

“It is difficult for me to comment too much on individual players and timescales.” — Eddie Howe

“All I am doing is try and finish the season in a strong way and make sure players are committed to the here and now.” — Eddie Howe

Those comments were interpreted by many as notably less definitive than a traditional hands-off response regarding a key player.

Barcelona no longer pursuing Gordon

Reports also suggest FC Barcelona have already cooled their interest because of Newcastle’s expected asking price.

That development may improve Bayern’s chances of progressing discussions without a major bidding war emerging immediately.

Still, Newcastle remain under no obvious pressure to sell unless Gordon himself pushes for a move or a significantly higher offer arrives.

The club continue viewing him as one of the most important long-term pieces in Howe’s attacking structure.

What’s next?

Bayern Munich are expected to continue monitoring Gordon closely before deciding whether to formalise negotiations later in the summer.

Newcastle, meanwhile, may wait to assess both the player’s own position and the wider market before engaging seriously with any proposals. Much could also depend on the club’s broader financial planning and European ambitions heading into next season.

For now, Bayern’s reported €70m limit offers the clearest indication yet that interest in Gordon has moved well beyond simple scouting admiration.

Would Anthony Gordon thrive at Bayern Munich, or should Newcastle do everything possible to keep him at St James’ Park?
