Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has provided an update on Yankuba Minteh's ankle injury as Liverpool continue to consider a late move for the winger.

Minteh has been sidelined since suffering the problem during Brighton's pre-season friendly against Roma, but his absence has not stopped Liverpool from pursuing him.

Reports suggest senior figures at Anfield discussed making another offer for the 22-year-old over the weekend.

Hurzeler provides Minteh injury update

Speaking after Brighton's impressive 4-0 Premier League victory over Aston Villa, Hurzeler confirmed there is still uncertainty surrounding Minteh's recovery.

“We know that he has an issue with his ankle,” Hurzeler said.

“We have to see how the next weeks are going, how this will develop because, of course, he is an important player for us.”

However, Brighton demonstrated against Villa that they have attacking alternatives.

Maxim De Cuyper impressed from the left, while Ibrahim Osman was introduced during the second half.

“We saw today we are able to replace him,” Hurzeler added. “It is very important that we don’t rely on one player.”

Liverpool remain interested in Minteh

Liverpool's interest adds another dimension to Minteh's situation.

The winger is reportedly high on their shortlist as Andoni Iraola looks to strengthen his wide options before the transfer deadline.

Bradley Barcola remains another major target, while Liverpool could potentially move for both players if Cody Gakpo leaves Anfield.

Minteh's ankle injury therefore arrives at an intriguing moment, with his future potentially still to be decided before the window closes.

Mitoma progressing with rehabilitation

Hurzeler also provided an encouraging update on Kaoru Mitoma.

The Japanese international missed the World Cup because of a hamstring injury and remains unavailable, but has now returned to working on the pitch.

“He is doing good. He is back on the pitch. He is doing his rehab,” Hurzeler said.

“I hope it is not that long but we still have to be a little bit patient.”

Key Points

  • Yankuba Minteh remains sidelined with an ankle injury.
  • Liverpool are reportedly considering another offer for the Brighton winger.
  • Bradley Barcola is also high on Liverpool's attacking shortlist.
  • Kaoru Mitoma is back on the pitch but remains in rehabilitation.

What’s Next?

Brighton will continue assessing Minteh's ankle over the coming weeks, but Liverpool's transfer decision could arrive much sooner. With the deadline approaching and Gakpo's future still uncertain, the Reds must decide whether to return with an improved offer despite Minteh currently being injured.

Should Liverpool push ahead for Minteh before the deadline, or focus their money on Barcola instead?
