Álvaro Rodríguez opens up on Bournemouth adaptation after Real Madrid move

Álvaro Rodríguez has admitted adapting to life at Bournemouth has been challenging following his summer move from Real Madrid, but insists he is embracing every moment of the experience.

The Uruguay striker joined Marco Rose's side in a deal worth €25 million (£21.7 million) after an impressive loan spell at Elche, where he helped the club secure La Liga survival.

Speaking to Uruguayan media, via El País, the 22-year-old discussed his first weeks in England, his Premier League ambitions and his dream of returning to the Uruguay national team.

Rodríguez acknowledged that moving abroad for the first time has required a significant adjustment.

"It's a process of adaptation – a new language, another intensity, new teammates."

Despite the challenges, the striker says he is enjoying the experience.

"It's hard, but I'm enjoying it and that's the best thing. I'm happy."

The former Real Madrid forward also made it clear he has no intention of limiting his ambitions.

"I don't set limits for myself. Being here isn't pressure, it's a dream and I'm going to enjoy it until the very last second."

Rodríguez admitted he hopes to follow in the footsteps of Uruguay legend Luis Suárez, who also enjoyed a successful career after leaving his homeland.

"I know what Suárez achieved. He's one of the best number nines in history."

"Of course I'd like to do what he did and even more. I'm here to try and keep following my dream."

The Bournemouth striker also welcomed Diego Forlán's appointment as Uruguay manager.

Rodríguez believes the former striker's connection with the national team makes him the ideal person for the role.

"I think the Uruguay national team has to be led by someone who feels the colours of Uruguay. Forlán is the greatest example of that."

He also revealed his appreciation for previous praise from the former Manchester United and Atlético Madrid forward.

"I know he spoke well about me in a television interview some time ago and I'm very grateful for those words."

Rodríguez also reflected on the recent passing of his father, Álvaro "Coquito" Rodríguez, a respected figure in Uruguayan football.

The Bournemouth forward explained that the message accompanying his transfer announcement was dedicated to him.

"When my move to Bournemouth became official, I posted a picture and wrote that his legacy continues."

Although still grieving, Rodríguez says his full focus is now on succeeding in England and justifying Bournemouth's investment.

Rodríguez will continue adapting to life in the Premier League as he looks to establish himself in Marco Rose's squad. A strong start at Bournemouth could also strengthen his chances of earning a recall to the Uruguay national team under Diego Forlán.
