AC Milan make early contact over Viktor Gyökeres as Arsenal role comes under scrutiny

AC Milan have reportedly made exploratory contact over a potential move for Arsenal striker Viktor Gyökeres, although the finances involved could make a deal difficult.

Arsenal paid €63million to sign the Sweden international from Sporting in 2025. Gyökeres scored 13 Premier League goals during his first season in England, but his position has become less secure this campaign.

Kai Havertz is currently providing significant competition for the starting role, while Gyökeres is still waiting for his first goal of the new season.

According to PianetaMilan, Milan have identified Gyökeres as a possible summer target and initial exploratory contact has already taken place.

The report claims there are growing doubts among Mikel Arteta’s staff over the striker, while his representatives are monitoring his reduced involvement.

However, there is currently no indication that Gyökeres himself is actively pushing to leave Arsenal.

Milan would reportedly prefer a loan arrangement and Ruben Amorim would be open to working with the 28-year-old again following their successful spell together at Sporting.

Any potential reunion would therefore depend heavily on Arsenal’s position.

Gyökeres’ current struggles do not necessarily mean Arsenal will accept a cut-price departure.

He remains an expensive asset and is under contract at a club in a strong negotiating position. Without the striker pushing for an exit, convincing Arsenal to sanction a favourable loan deal could prove particularly difficult.

There is also a question over how much Milan actually need another major investment at centre-forward.

The Italian club already spent heavily on Gonçalo Ramos during the summer and he remains Amorim’s first-choice striker despite still adapting to his new surroundings.

That makes the reported Gyökeres interest one to monitor rather than evidence that a transfer is already advancing.

His situation at Arsenal could change significantly over the remainder of the season. For now, Havertz is ahead of him in the competition for minutes, leaving Gyökeres with the challenge of forcing his way back into Arteta’s preferred attack.

Gyökeres still has plenty of time to change the picture at Arsenal, with his immediate priority likely to be regaining a regular starting position and ending his wait for a first goal of the season.

Unless his situation deteriorates significantly, Milan may struggle to secure the kind of loan agreement they reportedly want.
