Patrice Evra tells Man Utd to go all out for Victor Osimhen

Patrice Evra has urged Manchester United to make a move for Victor Osimhen, believing the Galatasaray striker is exactly the type of goalscorer Michael Carrick's squad still needs.

United already have Benjamin Sesko available through the middle, but Evra believes another proven No.9 should be among the club's priorities before the transfer window closes.

The former United defender has also backed Marcus Rashford to rebuild his relationship with supporters following his return to the first-team squad.

Osimhen has regularly been linked with a move to the Premier League after establishing himself as one of Europe's most prolific strikers.

The Nigeria international scored 76 goals during four seasons with Napoli and has continued that impressive record since moving to Galatasaray, finding the net 59 times in 74 appearances.

Asked by GOAL what United still need in the transfer market, Evra immediately pointed towards another goalscorer.

"A striker, someone who scores a goal. I think that's what I'm looking at. That's why for me, Osimhen is the best."

The 27-year-old is under contract at Galatasaray until 2029, so United would likely need to make a major financial commitment if they decided to follow Evra's advice.

Evra does not believe centre-forward is the only position United should consider strengthening.

He backed Andrey Santos to help cover the loss of Casemiro and believes United already possess several dangerous attacking options, including Bruno Fernandes, Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Patrick Dorgu.

Defence remains an area where he believes Carrick could use additional depth.

"Maybe another centre-back. Harry Maguire, for me, is doing his job and you know, he's criticised a lot, but he shows you the resilience."

Evra also highlighted left-back and right-back as positions United could improve, particularly if they can find a full-back capable of contributing effectively at both ends of the pitch.

One attacking option Carrick has effectively gained this summer is Rashford.

The 28-year-old has returned to Manchester United following loan spells with Aston Villa and Barcelona, having not played for his boyhood club since December 2024.

Evra believes United supporters are capable of forgiving Rashford if the England international demonstrates his commitment on the pitch.

"I think United fans, they forgive. They forgive."

However, the former United defender believes Rashford must accept that he may no longer automatically command a starting position.

"It's up to Marcus to accept that maybe he's not the first choice."

Evra believes the key will be Rashford showing supporters how much playing for United still means to him whenever opportunities arrive.

Rashford was not involved as United faced Leeds United in their latest pre-season friendly, but he could make his long-awaited return against AC Milan on Saturday.

That fixture would provide Carrick with another opportunity to assess his attacking options before the competitive campaign begins.

United then open their Premier League season away at newly-promoted Hull City on August 22.

With Champions League football also returning to the schedule, Evra believes greater depth will be required if his former club are to compete across multiple competitions.

Osimhen would certainly provide another elite goalscoring option, but Evra's comments are transfer advice rather than confirmation that United are currently negotiating with Galatasaray.

Manchester United must decide whether another striker is realistic before the transfer deadline, with Osimhen tied to a long-term Galatasaray contract and likely to command a substantial fee.

More immediately, attention turns to Rashford. He could receive his first United minutes since December 2024 against AC Milan on Saturday, giving him an early opportunity to show Carrick that he can once again become an important part of the squad.
