Aston Villa defender Pau Torres believes Unai Emery would be the perfect candidate for the Real Madrid job if the opportunity ever arrived, describing such a move as the “icing on the cake” in the Spaniard’s managerial career.

The comments come after another hugely successful campaign under Emery, with Aston Villa again pushing toward Champions League qualification while also reaching a major European final.

Speaking on Radio Marca’s La Tribu, Torres praised the Aston Villa manager and insisted his achievements across Europe have already proven his credentials at the highest level.

''Coaching Real Madrid would be the icing on the cake for Emery’s career. He’s a manager who lives and breathes football. I think he’s more than qualified. The results he’s achieved at every club he’s been at speak for themselves.''

Emery continues remarkable Aston Villa transformation

Villa’s progress under Emery has strengthened his reputation as one of Europe’s most effective managers.

The club endured a difficult start to the campaign and struggled for goals during the opening weeks, but the recovery since then has been dramatic.

Having followed Aston Villa throughout the season, Emery’s greatest achievement has arguably been creating consistency and belief despite difficult circumstances and squad challenges.

Villa has qualified for the Champions League and have also reached the Europa League final, putting them within touching distance of a first major trophy since 1996.

Real Madrid links appear unlikely

Reports in recent weeks have linked Emery with Real Madrid as uncertainty surrounded the Spanish giants' managerial situation.

However, current indications suggest Real Madrid are moving in another direction.

Reports from Portugal claim the club are instead progressing toward an agreement with Jose Mourinho, which would end any realistic possibility of Emery leaving Villa this summer.

That development should come as a major relief for Aston Villa supporters.

From the final months of Villa’s campaign, there has been a growing feeling that Emery’s project remains unfinished. The club have developed rapidly under his leadership and reaching the Champions League consistently would represent another important step forward.

Managers delivering sustained success in both domestic and European competitions inevitably attract attention from elite clubs.

Why Villa supporters will enjoy Torres’ comments

While players often avoid discussing managerial speculation publicly, Torres’ comments also underline the respect Emery commands inside the dressing room.

The pair already shared a successful period together previously, and Torres’ words suggest the manager’s influence extends beyond tactical work alone.

For now though, Aston Villa appear to have something more important to focus on than transfer rumours or managerial discussions.

There is still a season to finish — and potentially silverware to win.
