Tottenham submit €55m Andreas Schjelderup bid as Benfica respond

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly submitted their first formal offer for Benfica winger Andreas Schjelderup, with negotiations now focusing on the structure of the proposed deal rather than its overall value.

According to Portuguese outlet Now, via Bola na Rede, Spurs have offered an initial €45 million (£38.8 million), with a further €10 million (£8.6 million) in performance-related bonuses. The total package is worth €55 million (£47.4 million).

Benfica are not believed to have rejected the proposal outright but are instead seeking changes to the payment structure.

The report claims Benfica would prefer to receive €50 million (£43.1 million) as a fixed fee, with the remaining €5 million (£4.3 million) made up of achievable bonuses.

That leaves only a relatively small gap between the two clubs, suggesting negotiations could continue in the coming days.

Rather than disputing the overall valuation of Schjelderup, discussions are currently centred on how much of the transfer package should be guaranteed.

The reported bid follows weeks of speculation linking Tottenham with the Norway international.

Spurs have consistently been identified as the Premier League club pushing hardest to sign the 22-year-old, having previously held discussions with Benfica while monitoring his contract situation.

If confirmed, the latest proposal would represent Tottenham's first formal offer of the summer for the winger.

Despite growing transfer interest, Benfica head coach Marco Silva has made it clear he wants Schjelderup to remain at the club.

The report states Silva has spoken directly with the winger, explaining that he considers him an important part of his plans for the upcoming season.

However, uncertainty over Schjelderup's future has persisted throughout the transfer window. The Norwegian has yet to sign the contract extension offered by Benfica, while recent reports in Portugal have suggested he is open to taking the next step in his career.

Tottenham and Benfica are expected to continue negotiations over the payment structure of the deal. With only a relatively small difference between the clubs' positions, discussions could progress quickly if a compromise is reached on the guaranteed fee.
