Roberto De Zerbi confirms Tottenham’s next transfer priority

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed the club's summer recruitment drive is far from over, revealing Spurs are now focused on strengthening their attack after already spending more than £200 million on new signings.

The north London club have been among the Premier League's busiest teams during the transfer window, adding six players as De Zerbi reshapes the squad ahead of his first full season in charge.

Despite significant investment across defence and midfield, the Italian insists Tottenham still need at least two more high-quality attacking additions before the window closes.

Speaking during a press conference, De Zerbi made it clear that reinforcing the forward line is now the club's main objective.

"Yes, the target now is to complete the attacking positions," he said.

"We want the first target, the first level, because anyway we already have important players, but I think to start the new project we need another couple of important players, for sure."

Tottenham have been linked with several attacking players in recent weeks, including Eli Junior Kroupi, Savinho, Pedro Neto and Rafael Leão, although no agreements have yet been reached.

Spurs have already completed an extensive rebuild this summer.

Experienced trio Martin Dúbravka, Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson all arrived on free transfers, while Jan Paul van Hecke joined from Brighton in a deal worth £52 million.

The biggest investment has come in midfield, where Sandro Tonali completed a £100 million move and Mateus Fernandes arrived for £85 million, taking Tottenham's total spending beyond the £200 million mark.

Those additions have significantly increased competition throughout the squad, particularly in central midfield.

One player whose future remains unresolved is Lucas Bergvall.

Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest have both seen bids rejected for the Sweden international, but De Zerbi admitted he would not prevent the midfielder from leaving if he decides his future lies elsewhere.

"I was very clear at the start of my time in Tottenham," De Zerbi said.

"Who doesn't want to stay in Tottenham? Who is not happy, is not proud to stay here, has to leave."

The Italian also confirmed he is yet to speak directly with Bergvall about his plans.

"I have not spoken with Lucas yet. I will in the next days and we will make the best decision for the club, for Lucas, for me, for every one of us, without problems. Lucas is a big, big talent."

"There will be a big competition to play because at the end, I think we will be two players for each position. If he wants to stay, I will be happy. Otherwise, we have to find a new solution."

His comments underline Tottenham's willingness to keep Bergvall while recognising the midfielder's desire for regular first-team football.

With the squad already strengthened in defence and midfield, Tottenham's attention now turns to adding greater quality in the final third.

Whether that involves established internationals or emerging young talent, De Zerbi has made it clear the club's business is not yet complete as preparations continue for the new Premier League campaign.

Tottenham are expected to intensify their pursuit of attacking reinforcements over the coming weeks while continuing discussions over Bergvall's future. The midfielder is due to hold talks with De Zerbi before a final decision is made, as Spurs look to finalise their squad before the transfer window closes.
