Tottenham handed Kudus boost as Omar Marmoush prepares for possible Newcastle debut

Tottenham could welcome Mohammed Kudus back into the squad against Newcastle United on Saturday, while new signing Omar Marmoush is in contention to make his debut.

Kudus has not played since suffering a thigh injury in January, meaning an appearance this weekend would mark his first in eight months.

Roberto De Zerbi also confirmed that Marmoush and fellow new arrival Savio are fit enough to start as Spurs prepare for another major Premier League test.

Kudus is closing in on a long-awaited return after spending much of the year on the sidelines.

The Ghana international could be named among the substitutes against Newcastle, although De Zerbi will make a final decision after assessing his condition.

“Maybe Kudus can come on the bench. We have to see,” the Tottenham manager said.

After such a lengthy absence, Spurs are unlikely to take unnecessary risks with Kudus, but simply having him available again would provide De Zerbi with another important attacking option.

Marmoush could also make his first Tottenham appearance after completing his move from Manchester City this week.

The Egyptian became Spurs' eighth signing of a remarkable summer window, joining initially on loan with an obligation to make the transfer permanent.

De Zerbi confirmed Marmoush is already in the physical condition required to play against Newcastle and could even start.

“Marmoush is available to play. Maybe also at the beginning of the game,” he said.

Savio is another option after enjoying an immediate impact following his own move from City. The Brazilian scored and provided an assist on his debut during Tottenham's Carabao Cup victory over Charlton.

De Zerbi says both new arrivals are fit enough to start, with their exact roles to be decided closer to kick-off.

There is less certainty surrounding James Maddison.

The midfielder injured his left shoulder following a heavy fall during Tottenham's defeat at Brentford and remains in pain.

“Maddison has not a big problem. Just pain in his left shoulder,” De Zerbi explained.

“He's working but I don't know if he's available for tomorrow.”

That leaves Spurs waiting on Maddison while potentially welcoming Kudus back and handing Marmoush his debut against Newcastle.

De Zerbi will assess Kudus and Maddison before finalising his squad for Saturday's meeting with Newcastle.

Marmoush appears certain to be involved in some capacity, with the main question being whether Tottenham's latest signing is handed an immediate start or introduced from the bench.
