Fulham have reportedly opened formal negotiations with A.C. Milan over a permanent move for Samuel Chukwueze following an encouraging loan spell at Craven Cottage.

The Nigeria international joined Fulham with a reported €24m purchase option included in the agreement after struggling to establish himself consistently in Milan. Since arriving in west London, however, Chukwueze has gradually become an increasingly important part of Marco Silva’s attacking setup.

According to reports in Italy, Fulham have now “officially initiated” talks over securing the winger permanently ahead of the summer transfer window.

Fulham pushing for lower Samuel Chukwueze fee

Italian outlet PianetaMilan report that Fulham are unwilling to meet the full €24m option initially agreed with Milan.

Instead, discussions are currently focused around a figure between €18m and €20m as the Premier League side attempt to negotiate more favourable terms.

That approach appears understandable given the wider financial context surrounding Milan.

The Rossoneri’s recent domestic struggles have intensified pressure around player sales, particularly with uncertainty growing over qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League. Milan have reportedly won only three of their last nine league matches, leaving their European position increasingly vulnerable heading into the final weeks of the campaign.

Having followed Fulham’s attacking development closely this season, Chukwueze’s improvement under Silva has been noticeable. The winger has added directness and unpredictability in wide areas, while his confidence has grown considerably with regular starts.

He has now contributed to seven Premier League goals during the campaign and has started Fulham’s last four league fixtures.

AC Milan may need sales this summer

For Milan, the situation may ultimately become less about maximising value and more about generating immediate funds.

Failure to secure Champions League qualification for a second consecutive season would create significant financial pressure at San Siro. That could force the Italian club into accepting lower offers for players already viewed as expendable within the squad structure.

Chukwueze increasingly appears to fit that category.

Fulham’s negotiating position may strengthen further if Milan’s need for capital gains becomes more urgent over the coming weeks.

However, it remains too early to conclude that an agreement is close. Negotiations are still ongoing and several details would need resolving before a permanent transfer is finalised.

Key Points

  • Fulham have officially opened talks with AC Milan
  • Samuel Chukwueze has contributed to seven Premier League goals
  • Fulham want to reduce the agreed €24m option fee
  • AC Milan could face financial pressure if they miss Champions League qualification
  • Current negotiations are reportedly centred around €18m–€20m

What’s next?

Talks between Fulham and Milan are expected to continue throughout the coming weeks as both clubs assess their summer priorities. Milan’s final league position could significantly influence their willingness to compromise on the transfer fee.

For Fulham, securing Chukwueze permanently would provide continuity in attack ahead of another Premier League campaign under Marco Silva. The player’s growing importance inside the squad also suggests the club would prefer to resolve negotiations before pre-season preparations begin.

Would Samuel Chukwueze become one of Fulham’s smartest recent signings if the deal is completed permanently this summer?
