Tottenham’s vice‑captain Cristian Romero has revealed he’d love to test himself in La Liga one day, yet insists his immediate priority is driving Spurs toward Europa League glory. With his contract running until 2027, the 26‑year‑old centre‑back admits he’s open to new challenges abroad—but only after guiding Ange Postecoglou’s side to silverware.

Spurs suffered another Premier League setback at home to Nottingham Forest, their 18th defeat of a turbulent campaign. Yet just days earlier, Romero helped secure a 1–0 quarter‑final win over Eintracht Frankfurt, booking Tottenham’s place in the last four of Europe’s secondary competition.

Speaking to Argentine reporters Esteban and Gastón Edul, Romero was frank about his future:
“I’d love to play in La Liga… I’m open to anything. My goal is always to grow and go to new places to continue developing. But right now, I’m focused on the Europa League semi‑final and helping this club lift a trophy.”

Despite enduring injuries that limited him to 23 appearances this season, the World Cup winner’s performances have attracted interest from Atlético Madrid. Postecoglou even admitted swapping Romero at half‑time against Forest was a pre‑planned move to keep his key defenders fresh for a packed April schedule.

Romero’s Defensive Impact Since Joining Spurs (All figures per 90 minutes; Premier League only)

Season Appearances Tackles P90 Interceptions P90 Clearances P90
2021–22 19 0.95 1.20 1.80
2022–23 34 2.10 1.40 3.40
2023–24 30 1.80 1.30 3.00
2024–25* 23 1.90 1.20 2.90

*Through April 2025

From his breakthrough as a dynamic tackler in 2021–22 to developing into one of the Premier League’s leading interceptors and clearers, Romero’s defensive evolution has been key to Spurs’ aspirations—whether in England or, one day, in Spain.

Will this be his last season with Spurs? How much could Spurs get for Romero?

He's their best defender! I think he's worth around 60M?! He's quickly injured, if he stays fit, but that's if his value would be 80/90 easy.
