Manchester City reject Barcelona’s opening Rodri bid as transfer talks continue

Manchester City are prepared to reject Barcelona's opening offer for Rodri despite the midfielder agreeing personal terms with the La Liga champions.

According to SPORT, the Spain international has given the green light to a move to Camp Nou, but the two clubs remain apart on the transfer fee.

Barcelona's opening proposal is reported to be worth €45 million upfront, with a further €15 million in add-ons.

Manchester City, however, are demanding a guaranteed €65 million before they will consider allowing the 30-year-old to leave.

Although City have previously been willing to accommodate players seeking new challenges, the club are unwilling to lower their valuation for one of their most influential midfielders.

Barcelona's pursuit accelerated after head coach Hansi Flick personally contacted Rodri.

The report claims the German manager spoke directly with the midfielder, outlining his plans and convincing him that Barcelona was the right destination.

Interest from Real Madrid has also cooled in recent weeks, with reports suggesting the Spanish giants were unwilling to match City's valuation.

Rodri has since informed Real Madrid that his preference is to join Barcelona.

Rodri's representative, Pablo Barquero, confirmed the midfielder's intentions during an interview with El Larguero.

"Out of respect for Madrid, as they have been class, Rodri informed them that his decision is to join Barca."

Barcelona now face the challenge of bridging the financial gap with Manchester City as negotiations continue.

The Catalan club reportedly believe a package worth around €60 million represents fair value, particularly with Rodri entering the final year of his contract.

Talks between Manchester City and Barcelona are expected to continue as the Spanish champions attempt to close the gap in valuation. Barcelona remain confident a compromise can be reached before the transfer window closes, while City are standing firm on their asking price.
