Crystal Palace lead Arsenal and Fulham in Raphaël Le Guen race

Crystal Palace are reportedly leading Arsenal and Fulham in the race to sign Stade Brestois defender Raphaël Le Guen, with the Eagles already having made significant progress towards securing the 19-year-old.

Palace previously agreed personal terms with the highly-rated centre-back and remain his preferred destination, although Arsenal and Fulham could yet complicate negotiations as all three Premier League clubs consider defensive additions.

According to Foot Mercato, Le Guen remains in discussions with Crystal Palace as Pierre Sage looks to bring the French youngster to Selhurst Park.

The Eagles have been working on the transfer since at least July and reportedly reached an agreement over personal terms several weeks ago.

Palace view Le Guen as a potential replacement for Maxence Lacroix, who left the club to join Chelsea earlier in the transfer window.

Despite their progress, a transfer has not yet been completed, leaving Arsenal and Fulham with an opportunity to challenge Palace for his signature.

Le Guen is understood to be attracted by Palace for several reasons. Working under Sage appeals to the defender, while the club's willingness to develop young players and their qualification for the Europa League also strengthen their position.

Arsenal have also identified Le Guen as a potential defensive addition, although the teenager is not believed to be their primary target.

Mikel Arteta's side are looking for another centre-back and are expected to prioritise a more experienced option, with the need for additional cover increased by the temporary absence of William Saliba.

That could leave Palace with an advantage if they are prepared to offer Le Guen a clearer pathway into senior football.

Fulham are also exploring the Frenchman as Álvaro Arbeloa looks to strengthen his defensive options. Le Guen is reportedly one of several centre-backs under consideration at Craven Cottage.

The involvement of two more London clubs creates additional competition, but Palace remain ahead at this stage.

The level of Premier League attention is notable given how early Le Guen remains in his professional career.

A product of the Stade Brestois academy, the defender only stepped into their senior setup last August and has made six first-team appearances.

That limited experience has not prevented clubs in England from recognising his potential.

Palace's existing progress could prove decisive, particularly if Le Guen views Selhurst Park as the best environment to continue his development rather than joining a squad where immediate first-team opportunities may be harder to secure.

No completed agreement with Stade Brestois has yet been reported, meaning the race remains open despite Palace's advantage.

Palace must now turn their advantage with the player into a completed agreement before Arsenal or Fulham decide to intensify their interest.

Le Guen's preference for Palace and their development pathway could work strongly in the Eagles' favour, but the transfer remains unfinished. With three Premier League clubs now involved, Stade Brestois may also find themselves in a stronger negotiating position.
