Radu Dragusin wanted a permanent move away from Tottenham before completing his summer switch to Fiorentina, according to his agent Florin Manea.

The 24-year-old joined the Serie A club on loan with an obligation to buy based on appearances after struggling for regular football at Spurs. Manea believes Florence can now provide Dragusin with the platform required to rebuild his career following last year’s ACL injury.

“He didn’t want a loan, he wanted to be bought outright,” Manea told ViolaNews. “Now he’ll give it his all. His life is in Florence.”

Tottenham blocked earlier Dragusin exit

Dragusin had already attracted interest from Italy in January, including from Roma and AC Milan, but Tottenham were unwilling to sanction his departure.

Manea explained that Spurs’ difficult situation at the time, combined with Dragusin only recently returning after a lengthy absence, made a winter transfer unrealistic.

“Tottenham were also in trouble, fighting for survival,” he said. “They weren’t ready to loan him out, and Radu had just returned after a year out. It wasn’t the right time yet.”

The situation changed during the summer, when Fiorentina moved quickly to secure the Romania international.

Fabio Paratici was particularly important in making the transfer happen. His relationship with Dragusin stretches back to Juventus, where the defender arrived as a 16-year-old.

Manea also credited Paratici with playing an important role in Dragusin’s previous transfer to Tottenham.

“When Paratici called in the summer, we were quick,” Manea explained. “We know who we’re working with.”

Dragusin already becoming important at Fiorentina

Early indications suggest Dragusin is receiving exactly what he wanted: regular football.

The centre-back has started every game so far this season and retained his place following Paolo Vanoli’s appointment as Fiorentina manager.

That continuity could prove crucial after a difficult period at Tottenham and the ACL injury that disrupted his career.

With Fiorentina’s obligation to buy linked to appearances, every start also potentially brings Dragusin closer to making his move back to Serie A permanent.

Regular starts could also determine his longer-term future, with Fiorentina’s obligation to buy providing a clear route towards ending his Tottenham career permanently.
