Phil Foden signs new Manchester City contract until 2030

Phil Foden has committed his long-term future to Manchester City after signing a new four-year contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2030 and his weekly salary set to rise to a mammoth £250,000 per week.

The England international's previous deal was due to expire next summer, but the midfielder has opted to extend his stay as City begin a new era under head coach Enzo Maresca.

Foden said he is excited to work with Maresca once again after previously enjoying success alongside the Italian during Manchester City's historic Treble-winning campaign.

The 26-year-old has spent his entire professional career at Manchester City after progressing through the club's academy.

Since making his senior debut as a 17-year-old under Pep Guardiola, Foden has established himself as one of City's most decorated players.

He has made 369 appearances for the club, winning six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League and two FA Cups during an outstanding period of success.

The new contract ensures the midfielder will remain a central figure as Manchester City enter the next phase under Maresca.

Speaking after signing his new deal, Foden spoke of his delight at continuing his journey with Manchester City.

"Committing my future to City means everything to me. Playing for this club is all I've ever wanted to do and it's always an honour to wear the shirt."

The midfielder also praised Maresca, who previously worked as Guardiola's assistant during City's Treble-winning season.

"I can't wait to work with Enzo again. He was brilliant during the Treble season – someone all the players respected and loved working with."

Foden's new contract follows a difficult campaign by his own high standards.

After producing a career-best return of 27 goals and 12 assists two seasons earlier, the midfielder has seen his role evolve within City's system.

Last season he scored seven Premier League goals and registered five assists in 33 appearances, often operating in deeper areas as players such as Jérémy Doku, Antoine Semenyo and Rayan Cherki featured prominently in attacking positions.

His inconsistent form also resulted in him being left out of Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the FIFA World Cup.

Despite the recent challenges, Manchester City have demonstrated their faith in one of the club's academy graduates.

With Guardiola's decade-long reign coming to an end earlier this year, Foden is expected to play a key role as Maresca builds his own side around a core of experienced players and emerging talent.

The new agreement also underlines City's confidence that the midfielder can rediscover the form that established him among the Premier League's elite.

Foden will begin preparations for the new campaign under Enzo Maresca as Manchester City look to challenge for more major honours. The midfielder will also aim to rediscover his best form and force his way back into Thomas Tuchel's England plans ahead of future international fixtures.
