Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro has revealed that several clubs enquired about his availability before he signed a new contract, while admitting he would love to return to Spain later in his career.

The 27-year-old World Cup winner extended his Spurs deal in June, before helping Spain lift the 2026 World Cup.

Despite links with Barcelona and Real Madrid, Porro insists he remains happy in north London and has not received any genuine transfer approach.

Pedro Porro confirms summer transfer enquiries

Speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena SER on El Larguero, Porro explained that he deliberately finalised his Tottenham contract extension before the World Cup.

The right-back wanted to concentrate on representing Spain without distractions over his club future.

"There were clubs that enquired about my situation, but there wasn't any real interest," Porro explained.

The defender suggested Tottenham's valuation may have discouraged potential buyers, although he did not confirm that any club had submitted an offer.

Porro also praised Spurs for offering him an improved contract before his World Cup success.

He described the club's decision to renew his deal before the tournament as an important gesture of confidence and said he felt valued at Tottenham.

The Spain international is reportedly contracted until June 2031, giving Spurs considerable security over his future.

Real Madrid and Barcelona links addressed

Porro has been linked with both Real Madrid and Barcelona, but he made clear that neither club had communicated a genuine transfer approach to him.

Asked about the possibility of playing in Spain again, the former Girona defender acknowledged that returning to La Liga remains an ambition.

"Obviously, I'd love to return to Spain someday. It's my country, and I like the league," he said.

However, Porro stressed that he respects Tottenham and does not believe it would be appropriate to discuss joining another club while under contract.

The right-back also declined to express a preference between Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Instead, he suggested that his playing style would allow him to adapt to either team.

His comments indicate that a return to Spain remains a personal ambition rather than an indication that he is seeking an immediate departure from Spurs.

Tottenham defender backs De Zerbi turnaround

Porro also discussed Tottenham's difficult start to the season under Roberto De Zerbi.

Spurs failed to win their opening six Premier League matches but have since responded with consecutive victories.

They defeated Coventry City 3-1 on 19 October before securing a 2-0 away win against Chelsea five days later.

"We started poorly," Porro admitted.

"We have a lot of new players, but now we have two consecutive wins, and we want to keep the streak going."

The defender believes Tottenham's recent improvement provides encouragement after a challenging opening period.

Porro remains committed to helping De Zerbi's side build momentum while continuing his development at the club.
