Manchester City are reportedly exploring a move to bring Pedro Porro back to the Etihad Stadium as preparations begin for a new era following Pep Guardiola’s departure.

The Tottenham right-back has emerged as a serious target for City, with reports from Spain claiming initial contact has already been made despite Spurs attempting to secure the defender to a longer contract.

If completed, the transfer would represent a remarkable return for a player who previously belonged to Manchester City but never made a senior appearance before leaving permanently in 2022.

Manchester City targeting Pedro Porro return

City are expected to undergo substantial changes this summer following confirmation that Enzo Maresca will succeed Guardiola.

The club are already planning reinforcements across several positions and right-back appears to be one of the areas receiving particular attention.

According to reports, Manchester City have moved quickly by opening discussions with Porro before the World Cup begins.

Tottenham are reportedly aware of the interest and are attempting to convince the Spain international to commit his future to north London beyond 2028.

However, progress has apparently been difficult.

Tottenham determined to keep key player

Roberto De Zerbi reportedly views Porro as an important part of Tottenham’s rebuild following a turbulent campaign.

The defender has become one of Spurs’ most influential players since joining permanently from Sporting CP and his attacking output has made him especially valuable.

Reports suggest Tottenham have already set an asking price of around £50m for the 26-year-old.
Having followed Tottenham closely over recent seasons, Porro’s attacking quality has often compensated for wider inconsistencies within the squad. Few full-backs in the Premier League combine crossing, chance creation and final-third aggression as consistently.

That explains why Spurs are reluctant to lose him.

A different Manchester City opportunity

Porro originally joined Manchester City from Girona in 2019 but never broke into Guardiola’s first team before eventually moving to Sporting CP.

His development since then has been significant.

Now, the possibility exists for him to return as a far more established player with major Premier League and European experience already behind him.

However, it remains too early to conclude that a transfer is close.
