Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro has travelled to Spain during the international break as he works to accelerate his recovery from injury.
The 27-year-old suffered the setback during Tottenham's 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa on September 19, forcing him off after just 19 minutes. Archie Gray replaced him.
The injury also forced Porro to withdraw from Spain's squad for the September and October internationals.
Porro turns to trusted specialists
Porro has now travelled to Badajoz to work with specialists he already knows and trusts.
PoliclÃnica Axis previously worked closely with the Tottenham defender during his preparation and recovery around Spain's World Cup campaign.
They have now joined forces with SPZ Iron to assess different aspects of Porro's condition and optimise his recovery programme.
"The objective? To assess, adjust, and optimise various aspects of his preparation, combining perspectives, experience, and knowledge to always work in the same direction," SPZ Iron explained.
The work is not solely focused on getting Porro fit again. The specialists are also looking at ways to optimise his physical performance once he returns to action.
Tottenham hoping for October return
Porro's limited pre-season following Spain's World Cup success had already complicated the beginning of his campaign.
He has missed three Tottenham matches this season and his latest setback has created another interruption.
Reports in England have suggested Porro could return during the second half of October.
His decision to use the international break for additional rehabilitation in Spain is designed to help accelerate that process and get him back into contention as quickly as possible.
