Brighton could hijack Patrick Wimmer transfer from Hoffenheim

Brighton & Hove Albion could still attempt to hijack Patrick Wimmer's move to Hoffenheim, despite the Wolfsburg winger being on the verge of completing a transfer.

The Austrian international appears close to finalising a switch within the Bundesliga, but reports suggest Brighton remain a potential threat until the deal is officially signed.

According to reports in Austria, Hoffenheim have made significant progress in their pursuit of Wimmer.

The Bundesliga club have reportedly reached an agreement in principle with the 25-year-old over a long-term contract running until 2031.

Hoffenheim have also informed Wolfsburg of their intention to activate the player's €10 million release clause.

The winger is expected to undergo a medical before completing the move.

At this stage, the transfer is considered to be in its final stages.

Despite Hoffenheim's progress, Brighton have not completely disappeared from the picture.

The Seagulls have followed Wimmer for a considerable period and were heavily linked with the winger last summer.
