Omari Hutchinson has taken an important step towards establishing himself at AC Milan after impressing in Thursday's 4-0 Europa League victory over Salzburg.
The 22-year-old, who joined Milan on loan from Nottingham Forest during the summer, delivered an encouraging performance in an unfamiliar wing-back role as Ruben Amorim's side secured another European win.
Alpha Cisse scored a hat-trick, but Hutchinson's contribution also attracted attention after a difficult start to life in Italy.
Hutchinson delighted with AC Milan opportunity
Hutchinson has struggled for regular minutes since arriving at San Siro, where he was recruited following Rafael Leao's departure to Turkey.
However, Amorim handed the England youth international a starting place against Salzburg, allowing him to complete his first full 90 minutes for some time.
Speaking to Sky Sport after the match, Hutchinson expressed his satisfaction.
"We had that hunger, we wanted to win the ball and score. For me, it was another step forward," he said.
"I'm really happy with my performance and I just want to keep it up, maintaining this level."
The winger also told Milan TV that he had enjoyed the opportunity to play a full match again.
"I was just really hungry to play today, and it had been a long time since I played the full ninety minutes."
Amorim's wing-back experiment shows promise
Amorim has been working to adapt Hutchinson to his tactical system, including a potential role as a wing-back rather than a traditional attacking winger.
The former Ipswich Town player demonstrated his willingness to embrace the change against Salzburg.
"To be honest, I really like playing wide, but honestly, I just want to stay on the pitch, wherever I get to play," Hutchinson explained.
The performance could strengthen his case for more opportunities in Serie A, where his involvement has remained limited.
It may also influence Milan's eventual decision over whether to make his move from Nottingham Forest permanent.
