Nottingham Forest unwilling to meet Feyenoord’s Givairo Read valuation

Nottingham Forest remain interested in signing Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read, but negotiations have stalled after the Premier League club decided not to meet the Dutch side's asking price.

Forest were the first club to make an official move for the highly-rated 20-year-old this summer, submitting an opening offer worth €17.5 million. However, FootballPlace understands there remains a significant gap between the two clubs' valuations despite ongoing discussions.

The player's stance could yet prove important, with Read keen on a move to the City Ground if an agreement can be reached.

According to reports in the Netherlands, Nottingham Forest believe Feyenoord's valuation of Read is too high and are unwilling to match the current demands.

FootballPlace understands the clubs remain in contact and discussions are continuing, although no breakthrough has been made at this stage.

Forest view Read as one of their priority defensive targets this summer, but they are determined to avoid overpaying despite strong competition for his signature.

Forest are not the only club monitoring the Netherlands Under-21 international.

Bayern Munich and Manchester City have also been tracking Read's development after another impressive campaign in Rotterdam, although neither club has submitted a formal offer.

The full-back has made 54 senior appearances for Feyenoord, contributing five goals and 11 assists, and remains under contract until 2029.

Feyenoord sporting director Dévy Rigaux is understood to prefer keeping Read for at least another season, reflecting how highly the club rate one of their brightest young talents.

While Feyenoord are reluctant sellers, FootballPlace understands Read would welcome a move to Nottingham Forest should the two clubs reach an agreement.

The defender sees the Premier League as the ideal next step in his development, although he is also aware of interest from several European heavyweights.

For Forest, Read fits the club's recent recruitment strategy of investing in young players with significant long-term potential. The challenge now is finding a transfer fee that satisfies Feyenoord without exceeding Forest's valuation.
