Nottingham Forest are expected to return with an improved offer for Givairo Read after Feyenoord rejected an opening package worth more than €25 million.
The Premier League club made their first official move for the 20-year-old right-back on Wednesday, moving ahead of long-term admirers Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
According to reports in the Netherlands, the Rotterdam club immediately turned down Forest’s proposal. Negotiations are continuing, however, with a second bid expected in the coming days.
Forest ready to raise offer for Givairo Read
Forest’s opening package was reportedly worth more than €25 million when potential bonuses were included.
That was not enough for Feyenoord, who are demanding significantly more to consider selling one of their most valuable young players.
Read is under contract until 2029 and has established himself as a regular when available. His long-term deal leaves Feyenoord in a strong negotiating position, while his development has also attracted attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
The Netherlands Under-21 international has previously been monitored by Manchester City and Bayern, but Forest have become the first club to make a concrete offer this summer.
Their opening bid has failed, but the rejection does not appear to have ended negotiations.
Feyenoord could demand club-record fee
The major question is how far Forest are prepared to go.
Feyenoord have previously been reported to want a club-record fee for Read. Their current record sale is worth around €35 million following Igor Paixão’s move to Marseille last summer.
If that position remains unchanged, Forest may need to improve their offer by at least €10 million to have a realistic chance of reaching an agreement.
The Dutch club have little reason to lower their demands. Read is young, tied to a long contract and already attracting interest from elite clubs.
Forest’s willingness to return quickly with another proposal should provide a clearer indication of how highly they value the defender.

An improved Forest bid is expected in the coming days as negotiations with Feyenoord continue.
No agreement has been reached, and it remains unclear whether Read has given any indication that he wants to move to the City Ground. For now, the focus is on whether Forest can produce an offer closer to Feyenoord’s valuation.
