Nottingham Forest interest leaves Fiorentina facing fresh Dodo decision

Nottingham Forest’s failed summer move for Dodo could become relevant again as Fiorentina consider how to handle the Brazilian defender’s contract situation.

Forest made a late offer for the 27-year-old during the summer transfer window, with Dodo reportedly open to the move. Fiorentina rejected the approach despite being prepared to consider a sale at the right price.

With his contract expiring in 2027, the Serie A club must now decide whether to extend his deal or risk his value declining ahead of future transfer windows.

Dodo started Fiorentina’s opening match against Roma but struggled during a heavy 4-0 defeat and has since found himself on the fringes.

Journalist Niccolo Ceccarini has now provided further background on the situation, claiming Fiorentina were unhappy with the defender’s condition and mentality during the summer.

“Fiorentina tells us that the player didn’t train very well over the summer and wasn’t in the right frame of mind,” Ceccarini told RTV38.

He added that the international break could be used to discuss a “bridging contract extension”.

Such an agreement would not necessarily mean Fiorentina intend to keep Dodo long-term. Instead, it could protect his transfer value and place the club in a stronger negotiating position should they decide to sell.

Ceccarini also stressed that Dodo is not completely outside Fiorentina’s plans, pointing to his continued presence in matchday squads.

A future Forest move is far from guaranteed.

Glasner’s side have since strengthened the position with Daniel Munoz, reducing the immediate need to return for Dodo.

From Football Place’s perspective, that makes Forest’s decision not to push further during the summer understandable. Munoz already knows the demands of Premier League football and provides an established option for Glasner.

Dodo’s situation is nevertheless worth monitoring. Fiorentina must either find a way to reintegrate him, secure a contract extension or reconsider a sale before his current deal enters its final stages.

Fiorentina are expected to use the international break to assess Dodo’s contract situation and his place in the squad.

Forest’s need for another right-back has decreased following the arrival of Munoz, but Dodo could return to the transfer market if Fiorentina decide a longer-term separation remains the best solution.
