Newcastle United midfielder Nico González has praised life on Tyneside following his £50million transfer, revealing that the support from supporters has exceeded his expectations.

The Spaniard has also dismissed concerns about Newcastle's location, describing the city as a welcoming place to live after settling in with his family.

Alan Shearer welcomed González to Newcastle

Speaking to NUFC TV, González revealed that Newcastle legend Alan Shearer was among the first people to welcome him to St James' Park.

The former striker spoke with the midfielder shortly before his official unveiling, reinforcing the positive impressions González had already received about the club.

“He said the same things that people and players have said to me. That this is an amazing club, amazing fans and some things I didn’t expect too much.”

González admitted he had also heard encouraging things about living in Newcastle from former teammates.

After experiencing the city for himself, he believes those recommendations were accurate.

“I think life here in Newcastle is nice. People are so friendly,” he explained.

“And when I first experienced this, in the first month and a half, I can say that this is true.”

Newcastle supporters have made midfielder feel at home

González also revealed that the reception from Newcastle supporters has been unlike anything he experienced at previous clubs.

“But the amount of love from the fans I’ve never felt (before),” he said.

The midfielder acknowledged that his first few weeks were challenging, particularly after making his debut against Tottenham just two days after arriving.

He initially spent a month living in a hotel without his family, making the adjustment more difficult.

However, González has now settled into his new surroundings and is enjoying life away from the pitch.

“So now that I’m settled, I feel so happy and blessed to be here with my family.”

His comments offer a positive perspective on Newcastle's appeal to prospective signings, particularly amid debate about whether the club's location makes recruitment more difficult.
