Nico Gonzalez has dismissed speculation linking him with a move away from Manchester City, insisting he wants to remain at the Etihad Stadium despite increased competition for places.
The Spanish midfielder has been linked with a summer exit after seeing his playing time reduce during the second half of last season, but he has made it clear he has no plans to leave.
Nico shuts down transfer rumours
Speaking to reporters, Gonzalez stressed he is happy at Manchester City and believes the club share the same view.
"I'm happy here. I don't want to leave, and I think the club wants me to stay."
The 24-year-old also dismissed suggestions he should expect guaranteed minutes in one of the world's strongest squads.
"I don't think any player has the position guaranteed for all the matches. Everyone has to work hard."
Gonzalez joined City from Porto in February 2025 and has since made 58 appearances, including 41 outings last season.
Competition part of life at City
With speculation continuing over Manchester City's midfield options, Gonzalez insists competition is exactly what drives the squad forward.
He pointed to his performances whenever selected, highlighting his display and winning goal in the FA Cup semi-final against Bournemouth as evidence he can contribute when called upon.
Despite missing out on the FA Cup final squad, the Spaniard insisted team success remains his priority.
"If we win, I'm happy. My dream is to win trophies."
He added: "If I don't play any matches, and we win the Champions League next year, I will be so happy."
Determined to fight for his place
Manchester City continue to be linked with midfield changes this summer, but Gonzalez remains focused on earning more minutes rather than seeking a transfer.
The midfielder will now look to impress during the remainder of pre-season as he competes for a regular role ahead of the new campaign.
