Newcastle United have reportedly agreed a deal to sign highly rated winger Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim, moving swiftly in the transfer market as Sandro Tonali edges closer to a £100 million move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Magpies are preparing for a significant squad reshuffle after accepting Tottenham's offer for Tonali, with personal terms between the Italian midfielder and Spurs also believed to be in place. While that transfer has not yet been officially completed, Newcastle have wasted little time reinvesting.

Newcastle move quickly after Tonali breakthrough

Earlier on Wednesday, reports suggested Newcastle were exploring moves for both Toure and Johan Manzambi, although neither transfer was considered close at the time.

However, developments have accelerated rapidly.

Football Place reported on 30 June that both Newcastle and Brentford were competing for Toure's signature, with Brentford initially leading the race. The Bees were reluctant to match Hoffenheim's valuation of the 20-year-old, allowing Newcastle to step in with an offer that has now reportedly been accepted.

The agreement represents a major coup for Eddie Howe's side, who have beaten Premier League competition to one of the Bundesliga's brightest emerging talents.

Why Newcastle wanted Bazoumana Toure

Toure enjoyed an impressive breakthrough campaign in Germany during the 2025/26 season, establishing himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting young attacking players.

Operating primarily from the wing, the Ivory Coast international combined pace, direct dribbling and creativity throughout the campaign.

Goals 5
Assists 12

Those numbers underline why Newcastle have prioritised the youngster as they look to add greater pace and creativity in wide areas ahead of the new campaign.

Newcastle have consistently targeted young players with significant development potential. Toure fits that profile perfectly, arriving with top-flight experience while still possessing considerable room for growth.

More business expected at St James' Park

Newcastle's summer business is unlikely to stop with Toure.

Should Tonali's departure to Tottenham be finalised, the Magpies will have substantial financial flexibility to strengthen several areas of Eddie Howe's squad. Midfield reinforcements are expected to become a priority, while the club continue to monitor other attacking options, including Johan Manzambi.

However, it remains too early to determine whether further deals will progress as quickly as negotiations for Toure.

Key points

  • Newcastle have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim.
  • Brentford were previously leading the race but did not match Hoffenheim's valuation.
  • Sandro Tonali is closing in on a £100 million move to Tottenham Hotspur.
  • Toure contributed five goals and 12 assists in 32 Bundesliga appearances last season.
  • Newcastle are expected to remain active in the transfer market.

What's next?

Attention now turns to the completion of Tonali's proposed move to Tottenham, with personal terms already believed to have been agreed. Once that transfer is officially confirmed, Newcastle are expected to continue strengthening the squad before pre-season gathers momentum.

The announcement of Toure's arrival could follow in the coming days if the remaining formalities are completed, while further additions in midfield and attack are likely to remain high on the club's agenda.

Will Bazoumana Toure prove to be Newcastle's next breakout star, or should the Magpies invest even more heavily after Sandro Tonali's departure?
