Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick insists he does not need reassurance over his future despite the club's worst start to a league season in 40 years.
United have won just two of their opening 10 matches across all competitions and are without a victory in six games heading into Wednesday's Champions League meeting with Como.
Carrick addresses Manchester United sack speculation
Speaking ahead of the trip to Italy, Carrick made clear that he does not require public backing from United's hierarchy.
"I don't need any reassurance," Carrick said, as quoted by The Independent.
"It's pretty clear. I know the role, I know my responsibilities. I don't need anyone else to tell me that or tell me when it's going well or when it needs to be better. I know that myself."
Carrick also acknowledged the need for improved results.
"I know we've got to win football games for everything to flow and everything to fit into place," he added.
His comments follow criticism of the club from former manager Erik ten Hag, who accused United of breaking promises during his tenure in a recent interview with The Athletic.
Carrick insists Manchester United squad remains united
Carrick defended his players' commitment despite United's disappointing results, pointing to their performances against Atlético Madrid and Leeds.
"Since I came back, the players and the staff have given us everything that they could give," he said.
"We've had some good performances. We've had some performances that we want to do better and we can improve on. We've made some mistakes."
Carrick also insisted he retains the support of United's hierarchy, describing his relationship with senior figures at the club as positive.
Manchester United face selection problems against Como

Lisandro Martínez, Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford, Benjamin Šeško, Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven are among those ruled out, while Leny Yoro is suspended following his red card against Atlético Madrid.
United have three points from their opening two Champions League matches, having beaten Sabah before losing 2-0 to Atlético Madrid.
