Aston Villa push for Matteo Ruggeri as Atlético await decision

Aston Villa are stepping up their pursuit of Atlético Madrid left-back Matteo Ruggeri as Unai Emery looks to replace the departing Lucas Digne.

According to Marca, the Premier League club are pushing hard to complete a deal for the Italy international, with Atlético prepared to sanction his departure this summer.

Emery has prioritised signing a new left-back following Digne's expected move to Paris Saint-Germain, and Ruggeri has emerged as the leading candidate.

Aston Villa have already presented an offer, with the 24-year-old now considering whether to accept or wait for alternative opportunities.

Ruggeri only joined Atlético Madrid from Atalanta last summer and made 47 appearances during his debut season, contributing seven assists.

Despite those performances, Atlético are willing to let him leave.
