Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha believes Tuesday's dramatic 3-2 Champions League victory over Roma could mark a turning point in the club's season.

The Brazilian scored twice in three minutes as Michael Carrick's side overturned a two-goal deficit at Old Trafford to end a nine-match winless run.

However, his memorable evening ended with a red card in stoppage time.

Cunha inspires dramatic Manchester United comeback

Roma raced into a 2-0 lead through Matías Soulé and Donyell Malen inside 17 minutes.

Bruno Fernandes began United's recovery with a retaken penalty in the 58th minute before Cunha equalised in the 83rd minute.

The Brazilian completed the comeback three minutes later, firing home after a pass from substitute Shea Lacey.

Speaking to TNT Sports Brazil, Cunha described the victory as a special moment.

"I think it was my most beautiful personal moment at this stadium," Cunha admitted.

The 27-year-old was booked for removing his shirt during the celebrations before receiving a second yellow card for a late challenge on Leonardo Balerdi.

Cunha sends message about Manchester United's history

Cunha believes United's current squad must take responsibility for creating a successful future rather than relying on the club's past achievements.

"I think it's a new Manchester United," he explained.

The forward acknowledged the importance of the club's history but stressed that previous successes should inspire the current generation.

He also praised the squad's character after recovering from a difficult first half.

Manchester United hope for turning point

United's victory lifted them to six points in the Champions League league phase, placing them 17th after four matches.

Asked whether the comeback could transform their season, Cunha responded: "Well, if not now, when?"

The Brazilian hopes the result will provide confidence after weeks of criticism and disappointing performances.

United's second-half response demonstrated their resilience, although Cunha's dismissal means he will miss their next European fixture.
