AC Milan push for Noussair Mazraoui as Manchester United eye Neco Williams

AC Milan have stepped up their pursuit of Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui, but any move is expected to depend on whether the Premier League club can first secure a replacement.

The Morocco international has emerged as one of Milan's leading defensive targets this summer, with the Serie A side keen to add a versatile full-back following Pervis Estupiñán's expected move to Aston Villa.

However, Manchester United are not expected to approve Mazraoui's departure unless they complete the signing of Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams.

According to reports in Italy, AC Milan have already opened discussions with Mazraoui's agent, Rafaela Pimenta, as they explore the conditions of a potential transfer.

No official talks have yet taken place between the two clubs, but Milan are increasingly confident the defender could become available before the transfer window closes.

Mazraoui's ability to operate on either flank is understood to appeal to Ruben Amorim, who wants greater tactical flexibility in his squad following Estupiñán's anticipated exit.

The 28-year-old's versatility has made him one of Milan's priority defensive targets.

Manchester United's stance could hinge on another transfer.

Reports claim the club are actively pursuing Nottingham Forest full-back Neco Williams, whose ability to play on both sides of the defence makes him a natural replacement for Mazraoui.

If United succeed in bringing the Wales international to Old Trafford, it would increase the likelihood of Mazraoui being allowed to leave.

Without a replacement, however, the Moroccan is expected to remain an important member of the squad.

While Milan reportedly believe a deal could be completed for around €15 million, that valuation appears optimistic.

For those reasons, United are likely to demand a significantly higher fee if they eventually decide to part ways with the defender.
