Manchester City are reportedly among several European clubs monitoring Villarreal midfielder Moussa Koné, with Marseille emerging as potential contenders for his signature.
The 17-year-old Spanish-Malian prospect has progressed into Villarreal's Juvenil A squad after attracting attention during his development in the club's academy.
According to Africa Foot, Marseille have contacted Koné's representatives, while City, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain continue to follow his progress.
Manchester City monitor €50m-rated prospect
Koné has attracted attention from major European clubs since his time with Villarreal's Juvenil B side.
His development earned him improved contractual terms and promotion to the club's Under-19 squad earlier this year.
The midfielder has made three UEFA Youth League appearances this season, alongside domestic youth-team outings.
Manchester City are reportedly continuing to monitor his progress as they assess emerging midfield talent.
However, there is no confirmation that City have submitted an offer or opened negotiations.
Marseille hold talks with Koné's agent
Marseille appear to have taken a more direct approach than several of Koné's other reported suitors.
According to Africa Foot, the French club have identified the midfielder as a priority and contacted his entourage.
Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG and Juventus have also been linked with the youngster.
Koné has registered one goal and two assists in six domestic youth-league appearances this season.
Whether Villarreal would consider selling him remains unclear.
Villarreal protected by €50m release clause
Koné's representative Modibo Sissoko discussed the player's contract extension in May.
Speaking to Africa Foot, Sissoko said the midfielder had agreed a deal running until 2029.
The publication also reported a release clause of approximately €50million.
However, a more recent report from the same outlet lists his contract expiry as June 2028, leaving the precise end date requiring clarification.
The reported clause could strengthen Villarreal's negotiating position, although its terms have not been officially confirmed.
