Lucas Bergvall transfer latest as Nottingham Forest see €50m bid rejected

Nottingham Forest are reportedly leading the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall after an initial offer worth around €50 million was rejected by the North London club.

The Sweden international has attracted growing interest following suggestions he could leave Tottenham this summer in search of regular first-team football. Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio believes the rejected bid most likely came from Nottingham Forest, who are expected to strengthen their midfield following Elliot Anderson's departure.

With Tottenham now open to listening to offers, Bergvall's future could become one of the Premier League's most intriguing transfer stories.

Speaking on the TuttoMercatoWeb podcast, Di Marzio explained that Bergvall's representatives are exploring potential opportunities after the midfielder struggled for consistent minutes following his move to Tottenham.

The Italian transfer expert believes Napoli investigated the possibility of signing the 20-year-old but quickly realised the financial demands were beyond their reach.

According to Di Marzio, Tottenham have already rejected an offer worth €50 million.

"Tottenham recently rejected €50m, likely from an English club, likely Nottingham Forest. And I don't think they'll go below that threshold. It will always take €50m or more."

If accurate, the rejection underlines Tottenham's valuation of one of Europe's most highly-rated young midfielders despite his difficult first season in North London.

Forest's reported interest comes at a time when the club are expected to reshape their midfield.

Following Elliot Anderson's departure, Nuno Espírito Santo's side are believed to be searching for a player capable of controlling matches from deeper areas.

Bergvall fits that profile.

Unlike another reported target, Davide Frattesi, who is naturally more attack-minded, Bergvall is regarded as a deeper-lying midfielder with significant long-term potential.

Having followed Nottingham Forest's recruitment strategy over recent transfer windows, the club have consistently targeted younger players with high resale value alongside immediate first-team quality. Bergvall would fit that model, although committing more than €50 million would represent one of the biggest investments in the club's history. Until formal confirmation emerges, the reported bid should still be treated with caution.

Napoli remain among the clubs monitoring Bergvall's situation, but completing a deal appears increasingly unlikely.
