Liverpool target Sergio Arribas after 33-goal contribution season

Liverpool have added Sergio Arribas to their transfer agenda after the Almeria attacker delivered 26 goals and seven assists last season.

The Reds have already looked to Spain this summer, signing Victor Muñoz from Osasuna for €40 million in June after beating Newcastle United to his signature. Now another former Real Madrid player has emerged on their radar.

According to Spanish newspaper Ideal, Liverpool are interested in Arribas as they search for players capable of making an immediate impact while retaining room for further development.

The 24-year-old certainly fits that profile. His performances for Almeria have attracted interest from several clubs, and Liverpool’s arrival could turn an already competitive transfer race into one of the more intriguing battles of the coming weeks.

Arribas came through Real Madrid’s academy and made his senior debut in 2020, but regular first-team opportunities proved difficult to find.

He eventually left for Almeria in August 2023 and has since established himself as one of the club’s most productive attacking players. Across his time there, he has registered 44 goals and 16 assists.

Last season represented another step forward. Arribas finished the campaign with 26 goals and seven assists in 47 appearances, giving him 33 direct goal contributions.

Those numbers explain why his market has expanded.

Sporting CP have followed Arribas for some time, while Sunderland have also previously been linked with a move. Liverpool are now reported to have entered the picture, although Almeria have yet to receive a formal offer.

The lack of a bid means the situation remains at an early stage. However, Liverpool’s interest is significant because Arribas appears to match the type of attacking profile the club are currently assessing: productive, technically developed and still young enough to improve.

Any Arribas transfer would also be closely watched in Madrid.

Real Madrid retained 50 per cent of the player’s rights when he joined Almeria, meaning they could receive a substantial share of the money generated by a future deal.

Liverpool have already been involved in a similar situation this summer. Real Madrid held a 50 per cent stake in Victor Muñoz before his move from Osasuna to Anfield, resulting in a financial windfall for the Spanish giants.

Arribas could now provide another.

Almeria have the player under contract until 2029, so there is no immediate contractual pressure to sell. At the same time, his performances have strengthened his market position considerably, with his Transfermarkt valuation rising by €12m since June 2025 to €20m.

Ideal does not report an asking price, and that is an important detail at this stage. Liverpool may be interested, but the financial structure of a deal could be complicated by Real Madrid’s sizeable entitlement.

The appeal goes beyond one productive season.

Arribas has now built a sustained record at Almeria, rather than simply enjoying a short scoring run. His 44 goals and 16 assists for the club show why interest has spread beyond Spain.

For Liverpool, his versatility in attacking areas could also be relevant as the club continue shaping Andoni Iraola’s squad. Arribas developed as an attacking midfielder but has shown he can consistently contribute in the final third, giving him a profile that could suit several roles.

Based on Liverpool’s recent activity in the Spanish market, their interest also appears consistent with a wider recruitment strategy rather than an isolated link. Muñoz has already arrived, and Arribas would represent another player with Real Madrid academy experience who has developed through regular senior football elsewhere.

However, it remains too early to suggest Liverpool are leading the race. No formal offer has been submitted, while Sporting’s long-standing interest means the Reds would not be pursuing him without competition.

Liverpool must now decide whether to turn their interest into a concrete approach. Almeria are aware that Arribas’ performances have increased his appeal and may be willing to consider a sale if a suitable offer arrives.

Sporting’s continued presence in the race could force interested clubs to move, while Real Madrid’s 50 per cent stake will inevitably influence negotiations. With no formal bids on the table yet, the next significant development should be the first club willing to test Almeria’s position.
