Liverpool’s interest in Bournemouth attacker Rayan appears to be genuine, but signing the Brazilian could require one of the biggest transfer deals in Premier League history.
Reports in England recently linked Liverpool with the 20-year-old, and ESPN Brazil journalist Bruno Andrade has now provided further information after speaking to sources close to Rayan and inside Bournemouth.
According to Andrade, Liverpool are interested in the attacker but have not yet made a formal approach to Bournemouth.
The Reds are also far from alone.
Several major European clubs, particularly from the Premier League, have reportedly contacted people around Rayan as they attempt to position themselves ahead of a potential transfer battle.
Premier League Clubs Circling Rayan
Rayan's performances for Bournemouth have prompted clubs to start gathering information months before the January transfer window.
“The idea in the European market is that people or clubs want to get ahead of the game because Rayan has been playing incredibly well,” Andrade explained.
“Clubs have the perception that whoever doesn’t get ahead will be left behind and miss out on the player. So they want to act in advance.”
Bournemouth are reportedly aware of the growing interest and expect approaches to become more concrete once the January window approaches.
Liverpool could potentially benefit from Andoni Iraola's knowledge of Bournemouth, but there is currently no indication that negotiations between the clubs have started.
And even if Liverpool decide to make their interest concrete, Bournemouth have placed a significant obstacle in their way.
Bournemouth Demand Full £130m Release Clause
Bournemouth's current position is that Rayan will only leave if his £130m release clause is paid.
Andrade claims the club have no intention of negotiating a lower transfer fee.
“The message is clear, obvious, and there won’t be a discount of even one cent,” he said.
“Whoever wants to sign Rayan in January, whether from the Premier League or another European club, has to pay the value of the clause.”
That stance is strengthened considerably by Rayan's contract, which runs until 2031.
Bournemouth therefore have little immediate financial pressure to sell and can wait to see whether one of Europe's biggest clubs is prepared to meet their valuation.
The Cherries initially invested up to €35m in the Brazilian, including €28.5m guaranteed and another €6.5m in potential bonuses. A £130m sale would consequently represent an enormous return on their investment.
Liverpool's interest is therefore worth monitoring, but there is a significant difference between admiring Rayan and paying the amount required to sign him.
For now, Bournemouth hold virtually all the negotiating power.
Key Points
- ESPN Brazil journalist Bruno Andrade has backed reports of Liverpool's interest in Rayan.
- Liverpool have not yet made a formal approach to Bournemouth for the Brazilian attacker.
- Several major European and Premier League clubs are also positioning themselves ahead of January.
- Bournemouth currently insist Rayan's full £130m release clause must be paid.
- Rayan is contracted until 2031, leaving Bournemouth under little pressure to negotiate a lower price.
What’s Next?
Interest surrounding Rayan is expected to intensify as the January transfer window approaches, when Bournemouth anticipate receiving official enquiries and potentially offers.
Liverpool must decide whether their interest is strong enough to justify entering a potentially expensive bidding battle. Bournemouth's position could eventually soften if substantial proposals arrive, but their current message is unequivocal: Rayan will remain at the club unless someone meets the £130m asking price.
