Leeds United rejected several approaches for Noah Okafor during the summer transfer window, including a £35million offer that remained on the table on Deadline Day.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Leeds had no intention of allowing the Switzerland international to leave, with Daniel Farke's side viewing the 26-year-old as an important part of their Premier League plans.
Crucially, Okafor was also happy to remain at Elland Road despite the significant interest.
Leeds stood firm over Okafor
Leeds' decision to reject £35m demonstrates how highly Okafor is valued after a promising first season following his arrival from AC Milan.
The attacker has made 36 appearances under Farke, producing eight goals and three assists despite dealing with several injury problems last season.
Okafor also remains securely under contract, with another three years left on his current Leeds deal.
That gave the club little reason to sanction a late departure, particularly after their return to the Premier League.
Bahoya arrival increases competition
Leeds nevertheless strengthened their attacking options before the window closed by signing Jean-Mattéo Bahoya from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Bahoya arrived on loan with an option to buy and will provide additional competition for Okafor, although the Swiss international's role has already changed slightly this season.
After primarily impressing from wide areas last term, Okafor has started two of Leeds' opening three matches in a more central position.
That versatility could become increasingly important for Farke following a summer in which seven new players arrived at Elland Road.
With Leeds rejecting substantial money and Okafor himself wanting to stay, both club and player appear committed to continuing their relationship for at least another season.
