Juanlu Sánchez has arrived in England to complete his medical with Bournemouth after bidding an emotional farewell to boyhood club Sevilla.
According to AS, the 22-year-old travelled from Seville on Wednesday to finalise his move to the Premier League, bringing an end to a lifelong association with the La Liga side where he progressed through the academy before establishing himself in the first team.
Speaking to Spanish media before boarding his flight, the defender admitted leaving Sevilla was one of the most difficult decisions of his career.
"Leaving home is never easy, but this is something both Sevilla and I needed to keep growing."
An emotional goodbye to Sevilla
Juanlu departs Sevilla after making 109 senior appearances for the club he joined as a youngster, closing a chapter that has defined much of his football career.
The Spain Under-21 international acknowledged the emotions surrounding his departure while expressing gratitude to everyone connected with the club.
"I'm feeling great and really eager to get started. It's been a tough time because I've been at Sevilla for so long, but let's hope everything goes well."
Reflecting on his time in Andalusia, he added:
"They've been wonderful years, and in the end, we all pulled through together. I love everyone there very much, and I'm sure we'll see each other again soon."
His farewell also struck a chord with supporters, with Spanish outlet El Desmarque capturing emotional scenes at the airport as one young Sevilla fan became tearful while saying goodbye to the defender.
Why Bournemouth won the race
Juanlu has attracted interest from abroad for some time.
Last summer, several Premier League clubs monitored his situation, while Napoli were also linked with a move. However, no transfer materialised until Bournemouth accelerated negotiations this summer.
The defender revealed that Bournemouth's long-term vision quickly convinced him.
"When I saw the project and the club's offer, I don't think either of us had many doubts. Everything moved very smoothly and quickly."
The comments underline the importance of Bournemouth's sporting project under their current leadership, with the club continuing to target young players capable of developing in the Premier League.
Ready for a new challenge
Although his focus is now on Bournemouth, Juanlu insists his connection with Sevilla will remain strong.
"I'll be cheering them on. Whenever I come back here, I'll be there to support the team and help with whatever they need. I'll always be here for Sevilla."
The move represents a significant step in the defender's career as he prepares for his first experience outside Spanish football and the challenge of adapting to the Premier League.
