Manchester United have identified Racing Santander left-back Jorge Salinas as a potential alternative to Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall, with the highly-rated teenager attracting growing interest from across Europe.
According to AS, the Red Devils have entered the race for the Spain Under-19 international, who has also caught the attention of Newcastle United, Barcelona, Atlético Madrid and FC Porto.
The 19-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season, helping Racing Santander secure promotion to La Liga.
Manchester United exploring alternative
Manchester United remain keen to strengthen the left-back position this summer, but AS reports the club have now identified Salinas as a more affordable option than Lewis Hall.
The Racing Santander academy graduate broke into the first team in 2024 and made 34 appearances during the club's promotion-winning campaign.
His impressive performances have put him firmly on the radar of several top European clubs.
Newcastle and Barcelona also interested
Newcastle United have been tracking Salinas for several months and remain among the clubs interested in the defender.
Barcelona have also pushed strongly for his signature, although the Spanish giants are reportedly unwilling to meet Racing Santander's financial demands.
Atlético Madrid and FC Porto are also monitoring the youngster's situation as competition for his signature continues to grow.
€16m release clause within reach
Salinas signed a new contract with Racing Santander last summer, extending his stay until 2029.
According to AS, his release clause doubled from €8 million to €16 million after June 30, but the Spanish club still believe it represents fair value given his rapid development.
The report adds that triggering the clause should not present any financial difficulties for Manchester United or Newcastle.
Racing Santander are now waiting to see whether one of the interested clubs decides to activate the release clause before the transfer window closes.
