Aston Villa handed Jonathan Rowe boost as Bologna open door to sale

Aston Villa's hopes of signing Jonathan Rowe have received a significant boost after reports from Italy suggested Bologna would be prepared to sell the winger for the right price this summer.

The English attacker enjoyed an impressive 2026 campaign in Serie A and Europe, increasing both his market value and reputation. While Bologna would ideally like to keep him, financial realities and growing Premier League interest could alter their position.

According to Il Resto del Carlino, an offer between €35 million and €40 million may be enough to persuade the Italian club to sanction a sale.

Unai Emery's side have been linked with several attacking reinforcements ahead of the new season, and Rowe is reportedly among the players being monitored.

The former Norwich City winger has never hidden his ambition to play regularly in the Premier League. Earlier comments from the player revealed a desire to eventually return to England after establishing himself abroad.

That ambition could become increasingly relevant if Aston Villa decide to make a formal approach.

Importantly, the report suggests Rowe would not reject the opportunity to move back to England should an agreement be reached between the clubs.

From Villa's perspective, his reported salary of around €2 million per year would also be comfortably manageable within their wage structure.

The situation is not entirely straightforward for Bologna.

Club officials would reportedly prefer to keep the 23-year-old, while Rowe himself remains content in Italy despite Bologna's failure to qualify for European competition.

However, the absence of European football is influencing summer planning.

Without additional revenue streams, Bologna are understood to be looking at ways to reduce costs and maintain financial balance. A substantial offer for Rowe could therefore become difficult to ignore.

Having followed Bologna's transfer strategy in recent years, the club have regularly demonstrated a willingness to sell players at peak value before reinvesting in younger or emerging talent.

That model has helped them remain competitive despite operating with fewer financial resources than many of Italy's traditional giants.

The key question may be whether Villa believe Rowe is ready to make the leap.

The winger has clearly enjoyed a productive spell in Italy, but much of his value is based on a strong 2026 rather than multiple seasons of elite-level consistency.

That does not necessarily make him a risky signing, but it may encourage caution when discussing a fee approaching €40 million.
