Joelinton has taken his Premier League preparations home — quite literally — as the Newcastle United midfielder continues his recovery from a knee injury by training at his boyhood club Sport Recife.
The Brazilian star, who made 37 appearances for Newcastle last season before being sidelined in April, is now back in full training — and has chosen to do so in familiar surroundings.
The 28-year-old suffered a knee issue that cut short his campaign just as Newcastle were pushing for European qualification. But after undergoing rehabilitation, Joelinton is now fully fit and eyeing a strong pre-season under Eddie Howe.
Why Train at Sport Recife?
The midfielder, born in Aliança — just an hour outside Recife — began his career at Sport before moving to Hoffenheim and later becoming a club-record signing for Newcastle in 2019.
“Whenever I’m on vacation, I come here to train. It’s brought me luck every season. I’m very happy to be back home.” — Joelinton
Now back in Brazil for the summer break, Joelinton is combining family time with focused training using the facilities at Sport Recife — a tradition he believes keeps him grounded and prepared.

With Sandro Tonali suspended and Bruno Guimarães' future always under speculation, Joelinton’s fitness boost is huge news at St James’ Park.

What a player! Really love everything about him. I remember when Newcastle bought him as a striker.. who ever put him in that midfield that was one of the best player changing positions I've seen in football!
