Leeds United defender Jaka Bijol believes Slovenia have enough quality to finish second in their Nations League group as they prepare for a decisive clash with Scotland.

The 27-year-old has become a key figure for his country, collecting 76 senior caps and starting all three of Slovenia’s Nations League matches during the current campaign.

Slovenia suffered a 2-1 defeat against Switzerland on Saturday but remain second in the group ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Hampden Park.

Bijol confident ahead of Scotland clash

Slovenia drew 0-0 with Scotland in their opening meeting in Stozice, but Bijol believes Bostjan Cesar’s team learned important lessons from that encounter.

The Leeds centre-back feels Slovenia have the ability to secure second place, although he knows they must prove it on the pitch.

“Of course, we want to be second,” Bijol said.

“I think we deserve it in terms of quality, but we have to show it on the pitch.”

Bijol is also expecting a completely different challenge in Glasgow, particularly with a packed Hampden Park behind Scotland.

“The atmosphere will be superb, the stadium will be full and we will really have to show great progress,” he added.

“I believe that we can also play such matches at a high level and achieve the desired result.”

Competition waiting at Leeds

Once the international break ends, Bijol will return to Leeds and resume his battle for regular Premier League minutes.

The Slovenia international joined Leeds from Udinese in the summer of 2025 and has previously earned praise from Daniel Farke for his performances and leadership qualities.

Competition in central defence has since increased following the arrivals of Nico Elvedi and Tarik Muharemovic.

Joe Rodon’s current injury could provide another opportunity, but Bijol will first be focused on helping Slovenia strengthen their Nations League position.

A strong performance against Scotland would provide the perfect way to return to Elland Road.
