Leeds move for Hidemasa Morita now being treated as done deal

Leeds United’s long-discussed pursuit of Hidemasa Morita is now reportedly being viewed in Portugal as though the transfer is effectively complete, despite mixed reporting emerging over recent weeks.

The Sporting CP midfielder has been linked with Elland Road for months and although recent claims introduced uncertainty, confidence around the move now appears to be growing again.

According to Correio da Manhã, Morita’s future is being discussed almost as a settled matter rather than an ongoing negotiation.

In a report focused on Sporting’s summer restructuring plans, Morita’s situation was presented in unusually direct terms.

Rather than describing talks as progressing or negotiations advancing, the newspaper simply referred to the midfielder as a future Leeds player.

The report stated that Morita “will represent Leeds” and also claimed he “will play for Leeds (England)”.

That wording stands out because previous reports had been noticeably more cautious.

Until recently, Aston Villa and Brighton had also been linked with the Japan international, creating the impression Leeds could face competition.

However, that confidence appears not to have reduced enthusiasm in Portugal.

Another reason for the confidence may involve Sporting’s own preparations.

Reports suggest the Portuguese club have internally accepted Morita’s departure for some time after being informed he would not renew his contract.

That has reportedly allowed planning for midfield changes to begin well before the end of the season.

From the closing weeks of Leeds’ campaign, strengthening midfield options has increasingly looked like a realistic priority as preparations continue for another Premier League season.

Still, there remains an important distinction.

Even if confidence is growing externally, there has not yet been official confirmation from either club.
